June 02 2017 [WorldNakedBikeRideChicago] BIG CHANGES FOR 2017!
World Naked Bike Ride : Chicago #14 is Saturday June 10th 2017.
WE ARE ***NOT*** IN THE USUAL LOCATIONS THIS YEAR!!!
Finally had to move on from that great spot we've enjoyed for years so DON'T come to the old lot or check-in spots or you may miss the fun. Stay tuned for updated info *JUST* before ride day.
With location changed SELF RELIANCE is more critical than ever. Basics like power and water and fire are uncertain so *WE* must be the party. Bike based sound systems are strongly encouraged, B.Y.O. Body Paints, keep your clothes with you, etc etc.

May 26 2015 Make Barbra's birthday beautiful :)
Under three weeks hence! ***Get YourSelf & YourBike Set ***
A pleasant recent posting by WNBRC's long-time videographer puts a few things well:
=============================
My birthday is at midnight June 14th...the night of WNBR. Aaaand for my birthday I would like:
1. That we have communicated beautifully our message of FREEDOM FROM OIL and POSITIVE BODY IMAGE!
2. That we have all stayed safe together thanks to our volunteer safety team and through our own strong community, and also our self-care (bring water and save most of the drinking for after!).
3. That we have taken care of our environment, our city, our parks, and our reputation...by not littering along the ride or at our rest stop or where the ride begins/ends.
4. That we all have had the best time of our lives!!!!!!
Thank you in advance for being the wonderful group that year after year we strive to be and continue to improve upon! I love you and can't wait to see all of you beautiful beings!
May 31 2015 Safety How To
Chicago's World Naked Bike Ride proudly continues a tradition of mutual respect, responsibility and safety. Participants look out for and cooperate with other riders. Specifically regarding safety the most important things are:
* Keep your clothes with you- NOT with a friend.
* If you encounter creeper nonsense call it out.
* Sometimes bystanders get hands-y during the ride.
* The ride has volunteers.
* Make sure you and your bike are ready.
Breaking these down...
* Clothes with you
This is a drop ride. Stopping a bike parade of 2000+ for multiple inevitable flats is impossible.
Yearly someone loses their friends in the crowd and falls behind the ride's end. When you're that rider the group's protection disappears. If a friend carries your clothes you could be alone, who knows where, naked.
* Creeper nonsense
Resist with a loud "NO!" if your personal limits (or a friend's) are violated. Creeps have a harder time when people suddenly stare at their offensive behavior. Attract the attention of friends and allies.
* Hands-y bystanders
Avoid potential gropes, slaps, and high fives by staying out of reach in the center of the street. The adventurous ride nearer the sidewalk.
* Ride volunteers
Most wear vests or lanyards. Please let us know if you encounter an issue; everyone should feel safe. On the flip side, please meet us with mutual respect if we ask something of you.
* Be ready
Get a bike tune-up if needed. Rest so that you're fresh for miles of bystanders cheering you shedding clothes (as bare as you dare!) Stay hydrated and eat. Carry water, food, and needed prescriptions.
I'm eager to see you Saturday, June 13th!

Defer drinking 'til after for least scrapes and tickets, keep clothes with you, say NO to nonsense, have an awesome time! Weather currently forecasting 60 & clear. Consider options like cape, gloves, boa, scarf, long socks in case of chill.
Thanx for bettering the world ;)

Come try the new online volunteer signup. Just answer a few quick questions so we can get your contact info and email and such. Returning volunteers please do it if you never have.
The naked ride loves volunteers and needs DOZENS. Past experience with critical mass or naked ride wrangling and corking helps, but newbies are welcome. We need lots of Friends in safety vests escorting the ride, as well as help with flyering, setup, body painting, stay behinds, cleanup and other earnest and eager low maintenance good hearted assistance. PLEASE SIGNUP NOW as meetings have already started.

Jun 9 2014 - Just 5 days until the ride!
Happy Monday! This is the big week we've been waiting for, the 12th Chicago World Naked Bike Ride is this Saturday June 13th, gather 6pm, ride departs at 8pm.
We have made some changes to our regular route, and there will be new check-in and rest stop locations this year, so please only pay attention to announcements from this email address.
KEEP IT LIKE A SECRET!
It is very important that we DO NOT SHARE DETAILS OF LOCATIONS to the general public on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
One thing that makes the Chicago naked ride unique is we have scouted locations that provide us privacy when we're not riding, so let's not give the creepy lurkers of the world a digital breadcrumb trail into our inner sanctum. Got it?
Don't worry, you'll be informed and will not miss out on the time of your life. We'll meet up just north of Greektown, and we'll end at the same location so you are not left lost and naked in the big city.
This ride is only possible through our joined effort, we need to work together to make Saturday a safe and positive experience for everyone.
If you want to share thoughts and questions with other riders, join the discussion on our Facebook group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/wnbrc/
Just don't give up the location of our Party Cave, the Dark Knight would be most upset with you ;-)
Jun 10 2014 - WNBR remains awesome, but creeps happen...
The WNBR is always an amazingly good time for 99% of the people involved, but every year something gets stolen, and some years have resulted in physical assaults on riders. It happens. Drunk creeps will get the wrong idea and jump the curb to try and touch riders.
Here's how to stay safe in a nutshell:
1. Ride in the center of the pack to stay out of reach of bystanders
2. Use your voice to stop people from approaching you
3. Help each other and stick together to define our boundaries
We have a crew of volunteers that will be clothed and wearing safety vests so they are easy to identify. This helps, but it doesn't cover everything, we all need to pull together to make this Saturday a truly awesome experience for 100% of the people along for the ride.
-----------------------------------------------------
HERE IS MORE INFO TO CONSIDER
We brought this up last year before the ride, and we are happy there were no reports of riders being groped or slapped. However, we cannot assume the problems of the past will go away. Awareness is the first step in staying safe, the next step is knowing how to react.
RIDE IN THE CENTER OF THE PACK
Staying out of arms reach of pedestrians lining up alongside the ride greatly reduces your risk of being touched. We draw large crowds, and people with a few drinks in them lose sense of boundaries, and sometimes pedestrians contacting riders have sent them off balance knocking them over unintentionally. Naked wipe outs are nasty - be careful!
DISMOUNT YOUR BIKE IF NEEDED
If we are going slow through a crowd of bystanders, consider getting off your bike and walking it. You can also use your bike as a barrier between you and the public.
YOUR VOICE IS POWERFUL
If someone coming at you seems like they have the wrong intent, USE YOUR VOICE TO CALL THEM OUT! Trust your intuition, do not wait for something wrong to happen. Most creeps freeze and buckle to social pressure when called out, so just call them out early.
HELP EACH OTHER
Don't just watch someone come into the crowd and touch someone. We all need to call out people that act inappropriately. If we join in a chorus of "BACK OFF!", then our voices become a very powerful tool in keeping people in line.
DEFINE OUR BOUNDARIES
Clothed people tend to think naked people are up for grabs, so we need to define our boundaries so the drunks don't do it for us. IMPORTANT, this is a non-violent action, we NEVER STRIKE BACK, but that doesn't mean we put up with people pushing into the ride. If you are a strong physical presence that can hold your own in a crowd, please ride along the edge when we confront large groups.
We will be discussing this further on our Facebook group (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/wnbrc/) and there will be a short orientation speech for people entering the pre-ride gathering space.
Thanks for reading!!!
Jun 12 2014 - We ALL make this happen, DONATE TODAY
The World Naked Bike Ride has no sponsors. This ride is simply an idea that caught fire back in 2004. People over the world were ready to get behind the idea we can use our bodies and our bikes to demonstrate it is time to shed the destructive habits of our past and make a clean start.
Every year new people step up to volunteer in Chicago to pull together a rolling naked festival, and much like a festival, it takes money and effort to create a SAFE space for us all to rock out in.
Please consider chipping in so we can have DJs, porta-potties, and anything else we need to create the best possible experience for everyone. None of the volunteers take in any money, and the DJs are doing this out of love for the ride.
All money donated online goes into material costs, as well as money taken in from merchandise. Becoming a WNBRC supporter is as easy as clicking a PayPal button.
Donate money!

Buy some schwag!

We're not taking money at the gate this time, so please do it online.
Jun 13 2014 - Getting to the Naked Ride
Hi Folks,
We will be gathering in the River North area just north of Greektown,
check-in location will be announced in the morning.
Here are some helpful tips about travel.
Metra usually bans bikes on trains for Blues Fest, this year it's just a booze ban:
https://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/service_updates/festival_season_alcohol_restrictions.html
We gather pretty close to Union Station, so the train is an option.
CTA lets you take your bike on a train or bus.
The Chicago Ave Blue Line stop is perfect for tomorrow.
Morgan Street Green Line stop is good too.
The Chicago Ave, Ashland, and Halsted bus lines get you really close to the starting point as well.
https://www.transitchicago.com/bikeandride/
OK, you have to drive...
IDOT has posted maps suggesting driving routes into the city:
https://www.dot.state.il.us/KennedyatOhio/detour.html
PDF links at bottom of page
Give yourself extra time, delays are expected to be crazy long. I'd suggest getting in the area early and finding something to do before check in time at 6pm.
Taste of Randolph is a good way to grab something to eat beforehand (very close to start)
https://tasterandolph.com
Cool bike art party happening (pretty close to start)
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/paint-pedal-a-pedicab-street-art-show-tickets-11684806571
Schubas has a pre-party each year (not so close to start)

JUST DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH!
We have a wild night planned for you.

May 29 2013 - Only TEN DAYS to decide what not to wear at the 10th World Naked Bike Ride!
Rain or shine we gather Saturday June 8 at 6pm for body painting, and the ride departs at 8pm sharp. Details on location and timing will be released day of the ride, so stay tuned for announcements.
Chicagoans agree the Naked Ride stands for a great cause (protesting oil dependence) and is AMAZINGLY fun, but it's time we acknowledge that women have been assaulted. Years ago it was rare, last year there were a few, we can't let it get worse.
Michigan Avenue is one of the best parts of the route, but each year bystanders jumped the curb causing trouble and neighbors didn't stop it. We must address this threat and act!

Jun 8 2013 - MAKE IT SO!
Today the World Naked Bike Ride rolls across the globe promoting freedom from oil and the beauty of people in hundreds of cities. This year marks Chicago's 10th Anniversary and we have a truly epic 14 mile gas free bare as you dare joyride ahead of us tonight.
Chicago's ride draws over a thousand participants and we are ready to take on a thousand more, so jump on a bike, lace up those skates or grab a long board! As long as you travel by the power of your body and conscience you can roll with us. Bare-as-you-dare outfits range from fanciful costumes, body paint and undies, to nothing at all.
Yes, that's right, you can get naked tonight and tour this great city to be cheered on by thousands like a rock star, but we need to do this responsibly.
The World Naked Bike Ride is about taking care of the planet and getting in touch with our better selves. Let's work together to keep the ride safe and respect each other, and we all need to clean up after ourselves. LEAVE NO TRACE!
Things are a little different this year so follow the instructions below.
CHECK-IN (Today, Sat Jun 8, 6pm):
900 West Adams - Mary Bartelme park - Participants on people powered wheels will be forwarded to start location. Do NOT show up naked.
WE'RE LEAVING EARLY (8pm):
Ride leaves before sunset for slightly better light and warmth. DON'T BE LATE! Or we will leave you behind. Make sure your bike's ready and that you're capable of 14 miles in under three hours (slow to medium pace, stops often).
CROWDING:
Weather and publicity and history may bring record turnout. Pro Tip is to come pre-decorated, hang streetside, and disrobe upon launch. However, if you arrive early, we have body painting supplies on hand.
GAWKERS:
We invite the public to join us in protesting British Petroleum's abuse of our planet when we give the station at Fullerton & Ashland a big swirlie.
Please keep in mind to not ride too close to bystanders, a lot of people just want to high five you, but some might slap more than your hand, so be careful and stay to the center of the road to avoid being grabbed.

World-class body painter Amy J is available for just a handful of major works. You'll get the photo of a lifetime, but must book her in advance and negotiate fee: amyjay49@gmail.com
Remember, we're fighting to free America from oil addiction.
Leave attitude, drunkenness, cars, drugs and sex dolls at home, and you'll have more fun than three Christmases.
Jun 8 2012 - Greetings fellow patriots!
This Saturday evening 1000+ cyclists will ride through Chicago celebrating freedom from oil and the beauty of people, simultaneously with many world cities the second Saturday in June since 2004. Join us in welcoming a people-powered future.
CYCLISTS: Check-in after 6pm at The "O" - Harpo's sign sculpture at about 1025 W. Randolph.
There they'll direct you to ride elsewhere. Ride leaves after 8pm.

* Treat this as you would any 15+ mile summer group ride. Check your tires, pack minimally, bring water+snack, CardsCashPhoneKeys, etc. If you're not that much of a cyclist (yet) join us later or just come cheer.
* You don't have to body paint. Just wear something minimal and fun and sheddable, and come later. Personally, I'm going patriotic themed this year, asserting bicycles as key to America's future, and wearing flag colors. Others doing similar won't be alone.
* Enjoy the dressing/painting/glitterguts areas but move on. Frankly, they're not without sharps and poison ivy. Hang out on feeder streets instead and make new friends :)
* This wonder relies on everyone's good and joyful behavior. Ride the experience well and it's genuinely life changing. But be a pest and security'll de-friend you.
